We finally have a name.
Since rumors first swirled in 2024 about a collaboration between OpenAI and legendary designer Jony Ive (LoveFrom), the tech world has been holding its breath. Was it a phone? A headset? A humane pin?
Leaks from Davos 2026 have confirmed the project codename: Sweetpea. And it is part of a broader hardware roadmap known internally as Project Gumdrop.
The Anti-Phone
According to The Information and confirmed by reliable supply chain analyst Smart Pikachu, Sweetpea is not a phone. It is a "context-aware audio node."
Imagine a pebble. Smooth, white, polished polymer. No screen. No buttons. Just a subtle, breathing LED indicator that glows when it's thinking.

- Interface: Voice-native (Powered by GPT-6 Voice).

Why Screen-Free?
The philosophy, driven by Ive, is "disappearing computing." The iPhone demands your attention; Sweetpea serves you in the background.
It listens. It sees (via multimodal cameras). It understands.
If you ask, "Where did I put my keys?", Sweetpea knows because it saw you drop them on the counter. If you say, "Book a table for two," it calls the restaurant using a synthesized voice that is indistinguishable from human.
The Risk
We have been here before. The Humane AI Pin and Rabbit R1 both failed because they were slower and dumber than a smartphone.
But OpenAI has an advantage those startups didn't: The Model.
Unlike the wrappers used by Rabbit, Sweetpea runs on a custom-silicon optimized version of GPT-6. It doesn't need to "call home" for every token. Basic inference happens on-device, saving battery and reducing latency to conversational levels.

Supply chain reports indicate Foxconn has begun NPI (New Product Introduction) trials in Shenzhen. We expect a teaser at OpenAI's DevDay in late 2026, with a full consumer launch in Spring 2027.
